Use a combination of timeliness, quality and record-completeness measures. A single throughput figure can hide preparation problems or missing records.

Analyse the workflow behind a result

Separate delays caused by a processing stage from delays caused by a handover or missing information. Review results by the categories relevant to the institution, such as set type, period or equipment. Avoid attributing a change to the software without reviewing other factors.

Make reports actionable

A report should identify the period, calculation and source records. Include the owner of a follow-up action and the planned review date. This connects measurement with a practical improvement cycle.
